Hi! My name is Ane-Elizabeth Lemyre and I've been studying in Administration for a year now at Lionel-Groulx College. My field of study is business management and I think that this glossary is for people interesting in this course. This Glossary has about 20 terms for you to help with business complex vocabulary. By learning the meaning of the words that are in this words list, you could improve your business vocabulary and learn about this field to see if you like it or not.

accounting
noun
The action or process of keeping financial accounts.
Example: The actual change concerns the accounting system and information system, particularly important to the distribution of power within organisations.
accounts payable
noun
Money owed by a company to its creditors.

accounts receivable
noun
Money owed to a company by its debtors.
Example: Variation in Acid Test Ratio An entity should be seeking to find a balance between the advantages of high level liquidity, and the disadvantages of high accounts receivable turnover ratio.
assets
noun
Property owned by a person or company, regarded as having value and available to meet debts, commitments, or legacies.
Example: This will permit a better management of the firm's assets, possibly even enabling it to benefit from future investment opportunities, as they will have some constancy in their revenue figures, and to make long-run plans.
balance sheet
noun
A statement of the assets, liabilities, and capital of a business or other organization at a particular point in time, detailing the balance of income and expenditure over the preceding period.
Example: However, it is used as more "reliable guide to the liquidity of a business than the current assets held at the balance sheet date".
cash flow
noun

Example: "A consistent and sustainable cash flow stream from product sales is key to any long-term investment, and the best way to attain a stable revenue stream is a 'cash cow' product, leading products that command a large market share in mature markets.".
expenses

The cost required for something; the money spent on something.
Example: Furthermore, there are expenses modules available from most ERP vendors.
liabilities
noun
A thing for which someone is responsible, especially a debt or financial obligation.
Example: Jolly SU has no loan history and therefore has no liabilities in the form of loan repayments.
marketing mix
noun
A combination of factors that can be controlled by a company to influence consumers to purchase its products.
Example: Divide management team into individual responsibilities for each element of marketing mix Don't spend whole budget if returns don't cover the costs Target market where a bigger profit margin is obtainable Forecasting is an inexact science and should be relied upon cautiously Need to target consumers on three dimension, psychological, functional and economic Report Contents:.
net loss

A net loss is when expenses exceed the income or total revenue produced for a given period of time.

net profit

The actual profit after working expenses not included in the calculation of gross profit have been paid.
Example: In this case, net profit before interest and taxation are used because the ratio measures the "return to all suppliers of long-term finance before any deductions for interest payable to lenders payments of dividends to shareholders, are made".
operations control

Operational control is the authority to perform those functions of command over subordinate forces involving organizing and employing commands and forces, assigning tasks, designating objectives, and giving authoritative direction necessary to accomplish the mission.
Example: Single robot motion According to MIABOT manual this robot can decode few commands as: Stop Test Flash Move and turn in various directions with set speed and distance Set power-level for all movement or turn operations control wheel speed and power Making MIABOT autonomous requires ability to plan motions to be developed automatically, by composition of known commands.

Owner's Equity is defined as the proportion of the total value of a company's assets that can be claimed by its owners.

A list of a company's employees and the amount of money they are to be paid.

profit margin

The amount by which revenue from sales exceeds costs in a business.

return on investment

Return on Investment (ROI) is a performance measure used to evaluate the efficiency of an investment or compare the efficiency of a number of different investments.
Example: SPI over time return on investment (ROI) has grown 54.7% from period 0 (4.27) but is half of the leading company (E - 8.24).
return on sales

Return on sales (ROS) is a ratio used to evaluate a company's operational efficiency.

revenue
noun
Revenue is the income generated from normal business operations and includes discounts and deductions for returned merchandise. It is the top line or gross income figure from which costs are subtracted to determine net income.

sales on credit

Credit sales refer to a sale in which the amount owed will be paid at a later date. In other words, credit sales are purchases made by customers who do not render payment in full, in cash, at the time of purchase.
